Lora Hein became the first woman hired as a backpacking ranger-naturalist in Yosemite in 1973. She earned an environmental studies degree from Sonoma State University before relocating to Washington State. After twenty-three years in parks, conservation, and public education, she writes to instill hope and fortitude into other women.
